Me and David went to see"The Arabian Nights" at Berkeley Rep last night. It's a very good production, and I recommend it highly. Mary Aimmerman (writer and director) used a lot of the lesser known stories, and they were all compelling to see performed.
What struck me most (well, maybe a lot) was that all of the male cast members had some sort of beard, and they were all real. No paste-on's in this production! I could tell, as we were in the second row, and the stage was what the Rep calls "thrust" - no pun intended ;-) Anyway, it had more than a few chuckles, some out and out guffaws, and alos some serious reflection.
Mary also did last seasons "Argonautika" , a re-telling of the Jason and the argonauts tale - men and togas AND beards!
Anyway, here's a link to photos on the official web site. They are press photos, so no reposting.
