Outsider Art
Mar. 22nd, 2009 11:18 amWe subscribe to the New York Times print version. Problem is, I don't have time to read it during the week, but David does. So, I save up all the sections so I can read them on Sundays here in Willits.
Going through Thursday's Arts section I read an article about a current day "outsider" artist named Morgan Monceaux. He's a 63 year old black man who has obviously been through a lot in his life, and has now found some his calling as an artist. He's painted portraits of all the presidents.
What's most interesting about the article is what I think is not said directly. In the main photo he is sitting in front of a large painting of his, depicting a group of men clad mostly in leather fetish gear. And in the article, it's noted that he is HIV positive, and he refers to himself as having a "daddy gut." I did the math!
